Artist Residency
A residency program dedicated to art, ecology and new ways of inhabiting the world
The Hôtel d’Artiste residency program is built around a fundamental principle: offering artists dedicated time for research, experimentation and dialogue in an environment conducive to reflection and creativity. Located in the heart of the Jura Mountains in Franche-Comté, the residency invites artists to examine the relationships between people and their environment, our place in the living world, and the ecological, social and cultural changes reshaping how we inhabit the world.
The residencies are rooted in ecological art, understood as an open field of research spanning artistic practices, science and place-based knowledge. The landscapes of the Jura, their ecosystems and their fragility offer starting points for developing new artistic forms, questioning our ways of life and imagining different relationships with the living world.
For two weeks, residents share living and studio spaces and take part in conversations while developing their own research. The residency includes a group exhibition and public engagement events, creating opportunities to share ideas and connect with the local community.
14 DAYS
Time to research, experiment and create
Fourteen days to slow down, step away from everyday life and devote yourself fully to artistic research. The residency offers an environment conducive to experimentation, new ideas and the development of projects engaging with contemporary ecological issues.
06 ARTISTS SELECTED
Diverse practices, shared imaginations
Each session welcomes six artists selected for their artistic practice, the relevance of their project and their interest in ecological themes. The diversity of practices and approaches encourages interdisciplinary exchange, openness to new perspectives and the emergence of new collaborations.
02 SESSIONS PER YEAR
Two opportunities each year to explore new perspectives
Twice a year, Hôtel d’Artiste brings together a new community of artists for a period of shared research and creation. Each session is a unique experience, shaped by the practices, perspectives and questions of its participants.
01 LIVING SPACE
Living together, thinking together
For fourteen days, artists share daily life in a historic building restored and transformed into a creative space. Each resident has a private room with a bathroom and access to the work and exhibition spaces.
A garden and games room offer other places to gather and unwind. Breakfast and dinner are included. Shared meals provide valuable opportunities for conversation, reflection and the exchange of experiences.

Residents are not required to produce a finished work: ongoing research, experimental processes, sketches and collaborative proposals are all welcome. Each session includes time to prepare a group exhibition and a public engagement program for the local and regional community. Artists are invited to share their practice, take part in discussions and contribute to the collective experience of the residency.
